Paramount has introduced a brand new scripted Star Trek podcast detailing the exploits of arch-villain Khan Noonien Singh. Star Trek: Khan – Ceti Alpha V will cowl the time period after Khan and his cohort of genetically-engineered villains had been exiled throughout the traditional episode Space Seed and earlier than Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. More importantly, the long-mooted miniseries shall be written and directed by Trek auteur Nicholas Meyer.
To Trek followers, there are few artistic figures who deserve extra swooning adoration than Meyer. The writer-director made The Wrath of Khan, the film that ostensibly saved the collection from obscurity. He would go on to co-write The Voyage Home and helm The Undiscovered Country — three of the most effective Star Trek films ever made. In reality, one esteemed Trek scholar even mentioned that to make nice Star Trek it’s worthwhile to do two issues: Hire Nicholas Meyer, then lower his price range in half.
Alex Kurtzman gave reward to Meyer, saying that “Nick made the definitive Trek movie when he made Wrath, and we’ve all been standing in its shadow since.” He added that Meyer has “come up with something as surprising, gripping and emotional as the original, and it’s a real honor to be able to let him tell the next chapter in this story exactly the way he wants to.”
When Star Trek’s revival started, Discovery’s unique creator Bryan Fuller recruited Meyer as a producer. Back in 2017, Meyer added that discussions had taken place for him to jot down a Khan mid-quel collection masking his exile and bridging the hole between the traditional collection and the movie. The collection might or might not have been placed on ice as a consequence of Paramount and CBS’ advanced re-merger, and the actual fact it was solely three episodes lengthy. On stage, Meyer mentioned that he was engaged on revising his drafts, and presumably ensuring they’re better-suited to the format.
Unfortunately there’s no stable particulars on who will star within the collection (Ricardo Montalban handed away in 2009), and no phrase on a launch date or runtime. But provided that Paramount has a) Hired Nicholas Meyer and b) lower his price range by extra than half, we should always count on this podcast to be the best piece of Trek ever dedicated to audio.
