A look at François Brunelle’s images is commonly disorienting. For years, the Canadian photographer has devoted himself to creating portraits of pairs of folks that look so remarkably comparable that you’d assume they’re siblings, or at the very least a part of the identical household. However, the pairs featured in his photographs are by no means associated: They’re doppelgangers.

In an interview with Gizmodo, Brunelle stated he was impressed to begin his “I’m not a look-alike!” challenge in 1999 as a result of he had been capable of see similarities in seemingly unconnected folks from a younger age. Another contributing issue was his personal resemblance to the legendary British TV character Mr. Bean at the moment.

“That gave me the idea to find lookalikes, bring them in front of the camera and capture on film the emotion they would experience, being in the presence of another self,” Brunelle stated in an electronic mail.
