As promised (or threatened, relying in your perspective), NFTs are coming to Instagram imminently. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated the app will this week begin testing a manner for customers to show non-fungible tokens on their profiles.

“We’re starting building for NFTs, not just in our metaverse and Reality Labs work, but also across our family of apps.” Zuckerberg stated in a post on Facebook. “We’re starting to test digital collectibles on Instagram so that creators and collectors can display their NFTs.”

An analogous characteristic is coming to Facebook within the close to future, and Meta is contemplating enabling NFTs in its different apps, resembling Messenger and WhatsApp. Also within the works is a manner for folks to show 3D NFTs in Instagram Stories utilizing augmented actuality. Zuckerberg says this characteristic can be constructed on Spark AR and would enable customers to “place digital art in physical spaces.”

Rumors swirled over the weekend suggesting that Instagram would begin testing non-fungible tokens within the app this week. CoinDesk reported that Meta would enable integrations with NFTs from the Ethereum, Polygon, Solana and Flow blockchains.

Zuckerberg has additionally spoken of his ambitions for NFTs in Meta’s tackle the metaverse. “I would hope that you know, the clothing that your avatar is wearing in the metaverse, you know, can be basically minted as an NFT and you can take it between your different places,” he stated at SXSW in March.
