Microsoft winds down its enterprise in Russia, lays off greater than 400 individuals

Microsoft says it’s “significantly” cutting down its enterprise in Russia, greater than three months after Russia invaded Ukraine. The software program large first pulled the plug on “new” gross sales of services in Russia in early March, and now Bloomberg News reports that the corporate is shedding 400 workers in Russia because it begins to wind down its enterprise there.

“As a result of the changes to the economic outlook and the impact on our business in Russia, we have made the decision to significantly scale down our operations in Russia,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a press release to Bloomberg News. “We will continue to fulfill our existing contractual obligations with Russian customers while the suspension of new sales remains in effect.”

Microsoft says it’s “working closely with impacted employees” in Russia, as 400 workers can be impacted by the corporate’s resolution to wind down its enterprise operations. It’s not clear what number of workers at the moment work at Microsoft in Russia, and we’ve reached out to the corporate to remark. Microsoft CFO Amy Hood revealed earlier this 12 months that Russia accounts for lower than one p.c of Microsoft’s income.

Microsoft isn’t the primary large multinational firm to droop or wind down its enterprise in Russia. Many Western firms, together with Dell, Apple, Nike, and Adidas, are severing ties with Russia, closing shops, or pausing gross sales.
