Ferries evacuated roughly 1,400 folks from Evia, the nation’s second-largest island, after a blaze flared up over Friday evening and successfully lower the island in half, blocking different technique of escape.

A makeshift flotilla of Coast Guard patrols, ferries, passenger ships, and fishing boats has been stationed close to the island’s northern tip in case different residents and vacationers want rescue, a Coast Guard spokesperson instructed AP.
