TikTok suspends new video uploads and livestreaming in Russia | Engadget

TikTok will briefly prohibit customers in Russia from livestreaming and importing new movies to its platform, the corporate announced on Sunday. It stated it was doing so in response to the nation’s lately enacted “” legislation, which threatens as much as 15 years in jail for people accused of spreading misinformation. “We have no choice but to suspend livestreaming and new content to our video service in Russia while we review the safety implications of this law,” TikTok stated. 

The firm went on to notice in-app messaging wouldn’t be affected by the choice. “We will continue to evaluate the evolving circumstances in Russia to determine when we might fully resume our services with safety as our top priority,” TikTok added.
