As corners of the Marvel universe are sometimes wont to do, a new staff of superbeings is being introduced for their very own staff e book set to launch in a few months. This time, it’s the fan-favorite Thunderbolts, although it’s not precisely the unique setup of B and C-tier Marvel baddies and antiheroes making an attempt to redeem themselves.

Written by Jim Zub and drawn by Sean Izaakse, the brand new five-issue Thunderbolts run will consist of fine guys: Spectrum, Power Man (Victor Alvarez), and America Chavez grace the staff, together with Kara Kilgrave (going by the codename Persuasion), and a brand new “cyber-soldier” character named Gutsen Glory. Led by Clint Barton, who’s been with the Thunderbolts a few instances, the brand new staff will probably be heroes licensed by New York to serve the town. With the rising significance of legality and superheroes within the Marvel universe, this may occasionally find yourself being a problem with different superhero groups just like the Avengers, since most of this staff has been in no less than one Avengers offshoot group within the final handful of years.

On Twitter, Zub acknowledged that whereas this new run is a departure from the usual Thunderbolts components, the e book would nonetheless be “playing with the concept’s implications.” Redemption, which has been a central theme in earlier incarnations, is being introduced over with the roster change. During the Daredevil occasion Devil’s Reign—which is nearly finished and fairly dang good—the title’s been borrowed by baddies like US Agent and Rhino within the miniseries Villains for Hire, they usually’ve been more than pleased to comply with the foundations of Mayor Wilson Fisk to throw any superhero they seize in jail. Once Reign ends, this new staff will probably be shaped and hopefully carry some shine again to the Thunderbolts title.

Zub started his Marvel tenure together with his quick lived Thunderbolts run in 2016, and he considers it a thrill to come back full circle. With 2022 additionally being their twenty fifth anniversary 12 months, he described it as an “absolute honor” in a statement to Marvel. “The ideas being unleashed in this series are things I’ve been wanting to do for years…Our creative team is firing on all cylinders, so get ready for ‘Justice, Like Lightning’ to strike every single issue!”
