Sony has plans to acquire Bungie, the studio behind the MMO Destiny, in a deal value $3.6 billion. Bungie will be a part of the Sony Interactive Entertainment household, which incorporates Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch Productions, Bluepoint Games and a handful of different distinguished studios.

Bungie is positioning the acquisition as the beginning of a brand new period for the studio — one targeted on international multi-media leisure, not simply video games. Bungie will retain artistic management over its franchises, in response to a weblog submit by CEO Pete Parsons.

“We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games,” he wrote. “We will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.”

The deal follows information on January 18th that Microsoft is shopping for Activision Blizzard for $69 billion.
