Slightly over a decade in the past, Edgar Wright launched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a reasonably good adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s beloved and intensely common comedian. Though it didn’t do too sizzling on the field workplace, it’s taken on a brand new life as a beloved cult traditional with a kickass soundtrack, and a geeky turning level for actors like Brie Larson, Chris Evans, and Brandon Routh. Good information for these followers, then: after rumblings again in 2020, it’s formally changing into an anime.
Partnering with Universal, the anime is being developed for Netflix to associate with their fairly stable lineup of diversifications in recent times. O’Malley himself and BenDavid Grabinski (showrunner of Nickelodeon’s 2019 Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot) will function writers and govt producers on the sequence. Should Netflix go ahead with the sequence, the duo will even be showrunners. And sure, Wright has a hand within the anime as properly, as he’s credited as an govt producer alongside O’Malley and Grabinski.
Being tapped to supply animation is the manufacturing firm Science SARU; you probably know them for Netflix’s Devilman Crybaby and the memeable Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! Directing duties will go to Spanish animator Abel Góngora, who directed promo episodes of the underrated OK Okay.O.!: Let’s Be Heroes and the wonderful TO-B1 section of Star Wars Visions. (SARU did animation for each that section and the Akakiri brief.)
In the last decade because the movie’s launch, Scott Pilgrim has endured thanks each to a faithful fanbase and an equally pretty good video game. The film itself was a visible feast with loads of appeal to it on the time that makes it a dependable weekend watch. Does Scott Pilgrim struggle a succession of Ramona Flowers’ exes in video game-like vogue make it ripe for an episodic anime adaptation? We’ll have to attend and see.
