Like Lake Mead and Lake Powell alongside the Colorado River, New Mexico’s largest reservoir has reached alarmingly low ranges. Photos taken final week at Elephant Butte Reservoir, which is positioned alongside the Rio Grande, present stark “bathtub rings”—mineral traces that present the place the water ranges beforehand sat—and large swathes of newly exposed shore because the water retains dropping.

As of Thursday, the water degree within the reservoir sat at simply above 4,291 toes (1,308 meters)—properly beneath the August month-to-month common elevation of 4,347 toes (1,325 meters). The final time the reservoir was this low was in 2013, when water hit 4,286.25 toes (1,306.45 meters).
