Netflix Said to Pause All Projects, Acquisitions in Russia

Netflix has quickly stopped all future tasks and acquisitions in Russia because it assesses the impression of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, a supply conversant in the matter instructed Reuters on Wednesday.

The streaming big had 4 Russian-language collection in manufacturing and post-production, together with Zato, a detective drama.

Russia has been going through boycott within the movie and TV business. The Cannes movie pageant issued a press release on Tuesday saying it will ban official Russian delegations from its 2022 pageant until the Ukraine battle ends.

Earlier this week, Netflix stated that within the present circumstances it has no plans so as to add state-run channels to its Russian service, regardless of a regulation that will require it to distribute state-backed channels.

“Given the current situation, we have no plans to add these channels to our service,” stated a Netflix spokesman in a press release, referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Netflix, which launched its service in Russia in October 2020, would fall beneath the brand new Russian rules requiring compliance on March 1. The rules, overseen by Russia’s communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, require audiovisual providers with greater than 100,000 subscribers in that nation to distribute 20 free-to-air information, sports activities, and leisure channels.

The Netflix spokesman declined to touch upon timing or whether or not the corporate has held conversations with Russian regulators. It is unclear how the service shall be impacted by its resolution.
