According to 9to5Mac reader Ian Probert, “I have an M1 Macbook Pro. I purchased it in March 2021. Yesterday morning I opened it up to discover cracks in the screen. I contacted Apple and was forced to pay £570 upfront in order for them to repair it. I told them that I had done nothing to damage the screen but their response was that their technicians would decide if I had damaged it and would, in that case, lose my money.”
Subsequent reviews from the Apple Support Communities and Reddit have revealed that there are a number of customers who’re experiencing the identical factor. According to the feedback, some are suggesting that filth or particles may have gotten trapped on the underside part which may trigger the show to crack when it’s shut.
This is much like the rationale Apple has given customers after they suggested customers to not use a webcam cowl with their MacBooks because it may harm the show when it’s closed. Another person steered that possibly the body of the laptops are too weak to guard the show from the torque pressure as it’s being closed. Either method, some customers have managed to get their laptops changed totally free, whereas others have been charged.
We’re undecided how widespread of a problem this might be, however if you happen to personal an M1 MacBook, it might be one thing to maintain a watch out for.
