Lyft so as to add non permanent gasoline surcharge to fares amid spike in gasoline costs

Lyft plans so as to add a short lived gasoline surcharge to fares amid rising gasoline costs across the nation, the corporate confirmed to The Verge on Monday.

“We’ve been closely monitoring rising gas prices and their impact on our driver community,” Lyft spokesperson CJ Macklin mentioned in a press release. “Driver earnings overall remain elevated compared to last year, but given the rapid rise in gas prices we’ll be asking riders to pay a temporary fuel surcharge, all of which will go to drivers. We’ll share more details shortly.”

Lyft follows Uber in asserting a short lived gasoline surcharge as gasoline costs have spiked partly resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Uber’s surcharge for rides provides “either $0.45 or $0.55 on each Uber trip,” relying on a rider’s location, in line with Uber’s weblog concerning the change.

Like Uber, Lyft says the whole lot of the surcharge will go to drivers. Uber’s surcharge will apply even when a trip is completed in an electrical car, however it’s unclear if that may apply to Lyft’s surcharge as nicely.
