Google to Build Undersea Cable Firmina to Connect Latin America and the US

Alphabet’s Google mentioned on Wednesday it was constructing an undersea cable that may join the United States, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, to bolster Internet connection capability between these areas.

The cable, known as Firmina, would be the longest cable on the earth, Google mentioned in a blog post, including that it’ll run from the East Coast of the United States to Las Toninas, Argentina, with extra landings in Praia Grande, Brazil, and Punta del Este, Uruguay.

“Firmina will improve access to Google services for users in South America. With 12 fibre pairs, the cable will carry traffic quickly and securely between North and South America, giving users fast, low-latency access to Google products such as Search, Gmail, and YouTube, as well as Google Cloud services,” Google mentioned.

The announcement additionally comes amid a surge in demand for Internet and cloud companies because the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed extra work, buying and leisure on-line.
