Dwayne Johnson Faces a Black Adam Rockening

There’s nothing fairly so wild as Hollywood drama, and Dwayne Johnson’s crash and burn with Black Adam isn’t a lot a superhero smash as a superhero flop. From middling field workplace numbers to defensive claims about stated field workplace numbers, to assurances from new DC maestro James Gunn that Black Adam’s not lifeless, simply on ice… there’s actually nothing extra that would shock us.

At least till Variety determined to tug out all of the receipts and figure out what exactly went wrong here. Black Adam had the finances, the star, and the house within the DCEU timeline to get all eyes on it. So, this all began to go down in 2022, when Dwayne Johnson bent the ear of CEO David Zaslav and “directly pitched… a multiyear plan for Black Adam and a Cavill-led Superman in which the two properties would interweave, setting up a Superman-versus-Black Adam showdown.”

This dialog apparently turned the tide of inside opinion at Warner Bros, largely as a result of “Dwayne went around everyone, which didn’t sit well,” experiences one in all Variety’s sources. Additionally, one other supply stated that “[Johsonson’s] demands increased and the returns just weren’t there.” Such calls for included asking for a producer credit score on DC League of Super-Pets after which barely doing any promotion in any respect, then insisting {that a} bar serving his tequila model, Teremana, be put in on the NYC premiere of Black Adam, regardless of its PG-13 score.

And then, when the title fizzled out on the field workplace regardless of the Cavill cameo, and with out anybody on the newly-merged Warner Bros. to face up for Johnson, it seems as if that was the tip of Black Adam’s ongoing franchise.
