Discord CEO says the corporate gained’t add a crypto pockets — for now

On Monday, Discord CEO Jason Citron struck concern (or pleasure) into the hearts of Discord followers by tweeting a screenshot of what gave the impression to be crypto wallets in the app, however Wednesday night, he said the corporate doesn’t really plan to ship what he was exhibiting off.

“Thanks for all the perspectives everyone,” Citron said. “We have no current plans to ship this internal concept. For now we’re focused on protecting users from spam, scams and fraud. Web3 has lots of good but also lots of problems we need to work through at our scale. More soon.” Discord advised The Verge this week that the picture was from an inside hackfest.

Citron’s assertion doesn’t fully rule out the opportunity of some type of crypto / NFT integration in Discord sooner or later. Based on Citron’s tweet, it appears the corporate is wanting into the way it can use “Web3,” which is a shorthand that usually refers to a decentralized and crypto-based web, in addition to the way it can shield towards crypto / NFT scams that happen on the platform.

The firm advised The Verge one thing comparable about its curiosity in crypto after we requested a few survey mentioning NFTs that occurred to make the rounds simply hours earlier than Citron’s Monday tweet. Though that survey was apparently only for analysis, “we’re always exploring and hacking away at things we think will improve Discord for all the communities we serve,” a Discord spokesperson stated. “This includes research that helps us learn about what people want.”

It doesn’t seem that there will probably be an official crypto integration with Discord simply but. But don’t be stunned if there finally is.
