The Archie of Archie Comics will get round. He’s met each Kiss and the Ramones. He’s palled round with Batman. He’s teamed up with the Punisher, and even been chased by the Predator. But none of those comics crossovers—not a single one—holds a candle to Archie’s subsequent comics crossover, by which the completely satisfied, peppy stars of Archie Comics meet the darkish, tormented, and extremely disturbed stars of Riverdale. Which is to say, themselves.
The cowl of the upcoming one-shot comedian reads “The Team-Up You Thought Would Never Happen!” and that’s true. It by no means even occurred to me that the writer may pair the goofy hijinks of the comics with the ceaselessly murderous shenanigans of Riverdale. In the comics, Archie’s largest drawback is often his endless love triangle with Betty and Veronica. The most up-to-date troubles TV’s Archie has confronted embody: 1) having his home blown up by Veronica’s vengeful father Hiram (and presumably him and Betty as properly); 2) having been ritually sacrificed by your entire city, together with his family and friends, in a parallel universe; 3) struggling crippling PSTD from his time as a soldier throughout some wholly unnamed struggle that was fought in trenches as per World War 1. Like I stated, that is wild.
If you’re searching for an amuse-bouche of the insanity to return, Archie Comics despatched over a couple of of the early inside pages (sans dialogue) and so they’re merely pleasant:
How is the multi-Archie-verse colliding? Well, it seems like nerd/genius Dilton Doiley might have messed with the time-space continuum and introduced him into the comics world. Please be aware that the TV Dilton was ritually sacrificed by the Gargoyle King in what was very a lot not a parallel Riverdale universe.
Assuming Dilton is the offender, it seems that the Archie who appears to be like like Kiwi heartthrob Okay.J. Apa has no drawback charming each Betty and Veronica concurrently. Despite OG Archie’s fuming, that is immensely comprehensible.
Given that Jughead and Betty don’t have any relationship within the comics (and since he’s canonically asexual), it should be equally terrifying for Riverdale Betty and comics Jughead to search out themselves about to smooch.
Luckily, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is right here to avoid wasting the day! Or perhaps she’s the issue! I don’t know! All I wish to know is what occurs when the melodramatic creator, gang chief, ex-boyfriend of Betty, and ex-drug addict Jughead meets the Jughead whose solely curiosity for the final 83 years has been consuming hamburgers.
Archie Meets Riverdale #1 on May 11. Written by Loki and Lockjaw’s Daniel Kibblesmith, it is going to be drawn by longtime Archie Comics veterans Pat & Tim Kennedy.
