Anonymous Claims to Leak Data on the Texas GOP

Members of the hacker collective Anonymous declare to have leaked a big cache of knowledge belonging to the Republican Party of Texas. The leak, the scale of which is unclear, is claimed to incorporate the “private documents” of the group.

According to the hackers, these paperwork are a part of the trove of knowledge that was lately stolen from Epik, the controversial net registrar that has usually been criticized for its internet hosting of far-right teams and people.

When reached for touch upon Monday, the Texas GOP confirmed to Gizmodo that it was a person of Epik’s platform. The group additional acknowledged that it had reported the incident to federal legislation enforcement officers:

“This incident has been reported to the FBI and is currently under investigation. The reported leak of information stems from a September 13, 2021 attack on Epik, the website hosting provider that was being used by numerous organizations including the Republican Party of Texas.”

That September leak spilled a reported “decade’s worth of data” to the net—some 180GB of area purchases and transfers, account credentials, emails, and extra.

This newest alleged leak was introduced in a “press release” put out by the people claiming to be a part of Anonymous: “Bet you thought it was over, didn’t you? HA! HA!” the assertion says, which was revealed by way of 4chan. The group additional claims that the Republicans’ information cache incorporates “private documents, database, draft articles that didn’t make the narrative cut, dank memes (?), and only Raptor Jesus knows what else.”

Relevantly, the Texas Republican Party’s web site was recently hacked and defaced by members of Anonymous, after the state handed its controversial anti-abortion legislation.

Gizmodo has not independently verified the GOP information. However, the Daily Dot’s Mikael Thalen has said that he was in a position to confirm that the cache incorporates “sensitive info including the names, phone numbers, and addresses of volunteers, donors, and job applicants.”
