Amazon is giving its company staff higher flexibility to work remotely, the corporate said Thursday, in a big U-turn from its earlier return-to-work steerage.
In an inside memo despatched to staff, Amazon stated it expects staff to work out of the workplace three days per week, leaving them the choice to work remotely as much as two days per week. Leadership groups will decide what days staff will probably be required to work from the workplace, the corporate stated.

Corporate staff who do not need to work within the workplace three days per week will have the ability to apply for an exception. Additionally, some staff could have the choice to work absolutely remotely as much as 4 weeks out of the yr.
Amazon had beforehand taken a extra strict method to its return to work plans. Amazon stated within the memo that it is “learning and evolving as we go” and would “continue to evolve” because it receives suggestions from staff on the up to date steerage.
“Like all companies and organizations around the world, we’re managing every stage of this pandemic for the first time, learning and evolving as we go,” Amazon stated within the memo. “We’ve been thinking about how to balance our desire to provide flexibility to work from home with our belief that we invent best for customers when we are together in the office.”
Other tech corporations have taken an analogous method of their return-to-work plans. Last week, Apple said staff will return to the workplace three days per week starting in early September. In May, Google said it expects 20% of its staff to do business from home after its places of work reopen later this yr.
