Sony Pictures continues to take possibilities on its prolonged Spider-Man universe of characters with the Dakota Johnson-led Madame Web, including yet one more title—Emma Roberts, star of American Horror Story and Scream Queens—to its solid in yet one more undefined position.

This information comes courtesy of Deadline. Roberts joins not too long ago introduced co-stars Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim. S.J. Clarkson will direct from a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

The movie will characteristic Marvel Comics’ Madame Web, an aged girl who “suffered from a lifetime of blindness and many years of neurological deterioration due to myasthenia gravis, [which] she compensated with her profound psychic abilities, establishing herself as a medium,” in accordance with Marvel’s official bio. Truly an odd option to assemble a film round this character in a film when there’s already an unbelievable line up of feminine Spiderverse characters Sony may have gone with, except maybe Madame Web will tie all of them collectively? Roberts, Sweeney, O’Connor, and Merced may undoubtedly match the invoice for a few of the extra recognizable within the bunch, like Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman or and Gwen Stacy’s Ghost Spider. Could the film go a completely different route with Johnson as Madame Web bringing a squad of characters collectively in a very new reimagining of the comics lore for the movie? (Bring in Cindy Moon’s Silk too, please!)

As Deadline beforehand reported, “Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains.
