Twitter Says Its Site Is Being Restricted in Russia Amid Ukraine Crisis

Twitter is being restricted for some customers in Russia, the social media firm mentioned in a tweet on Saturday, February 26.

On Friday, in the future after Russia invaded Ukraine, Moscow mentioned it was partially limiting entry to Meta Platforms’ Facebook, accusing it of “censoring” Russian media.

Twitter mentioned it was working to maintain its service protected and accessible. It didn’t instantly reply to a query on whether or not Russia had communicated with the corporate about any actions.

Internet blockage observatory NetBlocks reported that Twitter had been restricted on main networks. A Reuters reporter in Moscow on Saturday mentioned the location was gradual and had difficulties sending tweets.

Russia has been making an attempt to exert tighter management over the Internet and massive tech firms for years, in efforts that critics say threaten particular person and company freedom and are a part of a wider crackdown in opposition to outspoken opponents of the Kremlin.

Last 12 months, Moscow slowed down the pace of Twitter in a punitive transfer as a result of it mentioned the location was not eradicating unlawful content material.
