Google Files Writ Against CCI After Confidential Report ‘Leak’

Google on Thursday mentioned it has moved the Delhi High Court in opposition to the leak of antitrust physique CCI’s confidential report pertaining to the investigation in opposition to the tech big. Google, in an announcement, mentioned it goals to stop any additional illegal disclosures of confidential findings by the investigative arm of Competition Commission of India (CCI).

“Google filed a writ petition in the Delhi HC seeking redress in this matter, specifically protesting against the breach of confidence which impairs Google’s ability to defend itself and harms Google and its partners,” it added.

Last week, reviews had said that CCI’s investigation arm, the Director General (DG), has discovered that Google indulged in unfair enterprise practices in relation to Android.

After prima-facie discovering alleged violation of competitors norms, CCI – in early 2019 – had ordered an in depth probe in opposition to Google on this regard.

“We are deeply concerned that the Director General’s Report, which contains our confidential information in an ongoing case, was leaked to the media while in the CCI’s custody.

“Protecting confidential info is prime to any governmental investigation, and we’re pursuing our authorized proper to hunt redress and stop any additional illegal disclosures,” a Google spokesperson said in the statement.

The spokesperson added that the company cooperated fully and maintained confidentiality throughout the investigative process.

The company stated that the DG’s findings “don’t mirror the ultimate resolution of the CCI” and the submission of the investigation report is an interim procedural step.
