Google Reportedly Faces $25.4 Billion in Damages Claims Over Adtech Practices

Google is reportedly going through claims for damages to the tune of EUR 25.4 billion (roughly Rs. 2,04,500 crore), in two lawsuits set to be filed by publishers over the approaching weeks. The Alphabet-owned agency will face motion in a Dutch courtroom and the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal, over the corporate’s digital promoting practices, in line with a report. Google has just lately been investigated by competitors watchdogs throughout Europe, after publishers have complained that it advantages unfairly over rivals from its adtech enterprise. 

In the approaching weeks, a legislation agency representing publishers will file two lawsuits towards Google over digital promoting, in line with a report by Reuters. Publishers have beforehand complained concerning the agency’s adtech practices, prompting investigations from regulators in Europe.

According to the report, the corporate will face motion in two jurisdictions, to acquire compensation for publishers within the UK and in Europe.

The lawsuits will reportedly be filed within the coming weeks, at a Dutch courtroom, and the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal. 

Both lawsuits will likely be funded by litigation funder Harbour — the Dutch lawsuit will cowl publishers affected by Google’s digital promoting enterprise, whereas the UK lawsuit will search compensation for revenues of stories publishers and websites supported by advertisements, as per the report.  

Google’s newest antitrust woes in Europe comes after earlier studies that the corporate is going through scrutiny into its adtech practices by each the European Commission and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) within the UK.
