We’ll finish on a surreal observe. In 2020, carmaker Hyundai partnered with Korean pop sensation BTS for Earth Day. The model inspired followers to take a selfie with the lights off, then tag the Hyundai account on Instagram for an opportunity to win BTS-themed prizes.

If you’re questioning what a selfie at midnight has to do with Earth Day, you’re not alone. I seemed by numerous the marketing campaign supplies, and there are scant mentions of Earth, nature, conservation, what have you ever. Heck, there’s barely something having to do with the outdoor on this marketing campaign, aside from temporary photographs of the BTS boys on the seaside, within the snow, within the rain, and strolling amongst timber within the promo video, which ends with a shot of them subsequent to a Hyundai hydrogen-powered automotive. (The model’s press launch said that the video is “presenting the company’s vision for hydrogen energy as the positive energy for a better tomorrow.” Cool.)

The selfie is meant to point… what, precisely? The thoughts boggles, the soul reels. Earth Day has reached its logical finish: completely meaningless company drivel.
